SHIFTING VOICES FILM FUND
CMP is honored to launch the second cycle of the SHIFTING VOICES FILM FUND to support Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) filmmakers and other underrepresented voices.
ROUND 2 APPLICATIONS HAVE NOW CLOSED
The Shifting Voices Fund is open to a variety of nonfiction stories and media developed by BIPOC creators across the United States -- more specifically documentary feature-length films (over 40 mins) that explore, dissect, and celebrate BIPOC perspectives and experiences. In particular, we are looking to support stories that spotlight historically excluded cultures, history and experiences in America. While we welcome projects from all backgrounds, special attention will be paid to Chicago-based films and filmmakers.
While the national rhetoric and consciousness around race experienced a major shift in 2020, BIPOC filmmakers still face major structural barriers to get their stories told. The independent media space rarely gives new, emerging filmmakers the opportunity to influence the landscape through media. This inequality stunts their communities’ healing, visibility, and growth.
We also see a lack of resources for coordinated impact campaigns, film screenings and community gatherings around these films. Such campaigns are essential in uniting communities most affected by the issues at hand and catalyzing a greater understanding and tangible support from outside communities.
